June 11, 2015 - Mammoth Site

This particular mammoth is named "Beauty" because isn't he? And
yes, every single mammoth found in this site was a young adult male.
But he still gets to keep the name.

With Thursday dawning with pouring rain, we decided to head for more indoor activities. Mammoth Site was a place where mammoths had fallen into a watering hole during the Ice-ages and then were unable to climb out again. A warehouse type excavation area (read indoors) was positioned over the site of the ancient trap. The place claims that they have the highest concentration of mammoth skeletons in the world. With 60 individual mammoths unearthed thus far, they are probably justified in their claims!
