Easter with the Deters Household

Easter egg coloring is serious business in our house.

Little sisters must be properly initiated in the intricacies of applying dye to each egg.

A certain little sister appears to be thinking that this whole process needs some livening up.  You have to watch her…

The eggs were successfully colored without a hitch or at least any major catastrophes.

The following morning the girls found the haul that the Easter bunny left behind.

I explain to Gabe the importance of removing the stickers before peeling and eating the results of the previous day’s egg dying work.

All the kids all fancied up for Church.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.  (We are still in the Easter season so this post still counts as on time!)

I’m so happy a bulldozer is tearing up my driveway

This was the view out my kitchen window this afternoon.

I apologize for the icky window but this particular window is difficult to clean and of course was the best angle on the work being done.

As you may remember we were having trouble with the drainage line leading from the house.  We hoped that just fixing the pipe right next to the house would take care of the problem.  We were concerned that if the pipe was crushed farther down the line we would have to dig out the concrete portion of our driveway that we installed a few years ago.

On Saturday we discovered that the outgoing pipe was definitely blocked.  While it would drain ssslllooowwwlllyyy, it would take a couple of hours to recover from just draining one shower.  And whatever you do, don’t flush a toilet!  And what was I up to on Saturday?  Dishes, laundry, showers and potty training.  Just try and talk the potty training kid out of flushing the toilet some time.  And since it was such a beautiful day on Saturday we spent some quality time digging in the dirt so a shower wasn’t just a nice idea.

However first thing on Monday morning, after a nice rainstorm the previous night created the first mud we had seen in months, they dug around, found the pipe just off the edge of the concrete, lay new pipe and my dishwasher and washing machine are now running at the same time!  Phew a serious run on sentence…and I refuse to fix it.

I’m thinking rock may be in my immediate future.  If we leave it like that do you think we will get more rain?  I do have 4WD on the car…

Almost a teenager

Can it really be that my oldest child is 12 years old?  It seems just a short while ago she was a giggly bald toothless adorable baby.  As the last official birthday remaining before true teenager-hood (is that even a word? spell check says no…) Megan managed to celebrate her birthday twice.

Due mostly to a confluence of the calendar where April 1st fell on Easter Monday, we celebrated her birthday with the family at Grandma and Grandpa Deters’ on Easter itself (March 31st).

Now I want to point out that we had her permission to do this. Since my birthday is on Christmas Eve I am a little sensitive to the birthday/holiday entanglements and needed her clearance to combine the celebrations.

Since a Monday with next day school wasn’t going to happen for a party we decided to have some of her friends over on Friday (April 5th).  The above flower pot is actually Dirt Cake (some people also call it Kansas Dirt.  Either way it is delicious.)  The girls picked out Wreck-It-Ralph for a movie and even said they had fun.

Happy Birthday Megan!
