June 9, 2015 - Badland's Petrified Garden

As we drove up to Rapid City we passed any very creative signs advertising the Badland's Petrified Garden. We decided to stop, stretch our legs and check it out. First we headed out to what was kind of a large, enclosed backyard. All over were various petrified stumps and logs for you to touch and see. We did a lot of posing next to them.

A bench seat for 2 little girls.

Gabe had to join in the fun with his big sisters.

Occasionally out of the sea of pictures that are taken, one of them turns out great! It helps that Malissa is photogenic.

A convenient grouping of 5 stumps. Perfect for our family.

The sign says "The largest and best preserved log you can see in the Black Hills and Badland's area." If you didn't know it was rock you would be fooled. It looks exactly like a fallen log.

Finally at the end we were eager to get into the air conditioned building to look at the fossils (it was 99 degrees outside!) A good side trip and now to continue the trip to Rapid City.
